 2016 Preview 


       St. James completed the 2015 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 4A region two, the Trojans earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. St. James's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Montevallo by a score of 21-7.

       The Trojans last playoff victory came during the 2003 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, St. James has gone a combined 36-28. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 4A over the past six seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, St. James has managed to compile a record of 141-129. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 4A and 171st in the AHSAA.

       The Trojans are led by head coach Jimmy Perry who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 24-19 over the past four seasons at St. James. Under his direction the Trojans have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won one region crown with Coach Perry.

       Coach Perry's overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 89-51 (63.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Perry's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won six region championships.

       The St. James Trojans will play in Class 4A region two during the 2016 season.

       Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Trojans will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region two this season.

      Running back Blake Underwood returns for his senior season after rushing for 1,148 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior last year.

       The Trojans open the 2016 season on the road against non-region opponent Bayside Academy on Friday, August 19 at Freedom Field. Last year the Bayside Academy Admirals finished with an overall record of 11-4 and in second place in Class 3A region one. The Admirals lost in the Class 3A State Championship game last season when they were defeated by Piedmont. They final score was 44-7 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn.

       St. James and Bayside Academy have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Trojans have a 2-2-0 record against the Admirals. They last met in with

       St. James returns 4A All-State Senior linebacker Sterling Jones. He was named to the first team last season.

       College prospects include: Sterling Jones (6-2, 221) inside linebacker,
